Uranium prices are in for 2012, and costs continue to head higher. The magic molecule's price tag is up over 400% in the past decade and could continue to cut into your dividend stocks' profits in the years ahead. I ran the numbers for some of the top nuclear-producing utilities in the country, and here's what I found out.
It's not us; it's them
In 2012, U.S. nuclear power plant owners and operators purchased 59 million pounds of U3O8 equivalent, roughly the same amount as in 2003 and well below its 2006 demand peak of approximately 65 million.

But over the same period, prices have skyrocketed. In 2011, 10 bucks would get you a pound of uranium. Now, the same pound costs power companies an average $54.99 per pound.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Rick Aristotle Munarriz]
Frederic J. Brown, AFP/Getty Images Moviegoers aren't heading out the multiplex the way they used to, but that doesn't mean that Hollywood is toast. AMC Entertainment (AMC) reported quarterly results Tuesday. The nation's leading exhibitor -- 345 theaters with 4,976 screens -- went public two months ago. The headline numbers are positive. Revenue increased a better than expected 2.3 percent to $713 million. Profitability also expanded nicely. However, revenue increased as a result of a 5.5 percent increase in ticket prices and a 3.7 percent uptick in concessions purchased by patrons. Obviously you don't see those kind of gains against a mere 2.3 percent lift in revenue without dealing with more empty seats, and that's just what happened. There was a 3.2 percent decline in attendance. AMC's ticket takers welcomed 50.4 million guests during the holiday quarter, well below the 52.1 million guests that it entertained a year earlier. That's bad, and what makes things worse is that it had fewer theaters -- from continuing operations -- a year earlier. It wouldn't be wise to hold out for a Hollywood ending. Customers Want Bigger and Better Things Apologists will argue that it wasn't a bumper crop of movies hitting theaters, but that's not accurate at all. Last year's biggest box office winner -- "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" -- opened in November. Disney's "Frozen" also opened ahead of the holidays, and it's the family entertainment giant's biggest non-Pixar earner since 1994's "The Lion King." Moviegoers still come out for the big movies, and they're also willing to pay more for a premium setting. IMAX (IMAX) reported blowout quarterly results a few days earlier. IMAX screens rang up a record $244 million in ticket sales worldwide. IMAX is also closing out the year with a record backlog of 384 commercial theaters to deploy. RealD (RLD) is also holding up nicely as a leading provider of 3-D systems for exhibitors. It enjoyed a major boost with "Gravity," a

FBR Barton Crockett reiterated an Outperform rating and $39 price target: inemark’s 2Q14 earnings report was encouraging in a difficult period. Revenues beat our expectations on upside in box office per screen growth in Latin America and U.S. concession pricing. Adj. EBITDA beat because of U.S. expenses. Domestically, while Cinemark’s box office trend was in-line with our estimate, it did not feature the Imax/faith-based movie mix headwinds that resulted in underperformance at Regal Entertainment (RGC) and AMC Entertainment (AMC)./p>

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Roberto Pedone]
The exact same setup is shaping up in shares of small-cap semiconductor firm Silicon Image (SIMG). Like HCP, this firm is stuck trading in a downtrending channel. Unlike HCP, trendline resistance is a whole lot stronger in this stock. Shares have gotten swatted down on each of the last eight attempts through that ceiling; with shares at resistance again, the high-probability move is to the downside.
Again, relative strength has been terrible since the summer; SIMG is underperforming the S&P by a considerable margin. Downtrending relative strength is a cardinal sin for stocks, so with shares sitting at resistance, now's a stellar place to be a seller. While support has been pretty strong along the way down, SIMG's previous penetrations through S1 should be a big red flag that buyers are skittish.
SIMG is in a textbook downtrend right now. Don't get caught on the wrong side of the trade.

AP NEW YORK -- American Airlines and US Airways (LCC) have cleared the last major hurdle to merging, now that the Justice Department has agreed to the deal if they scale back their combined footprint in some major airports. But it will be several months -- if not years -- before passengers see any significant impact from a union that will create the world's biggest airline. Passengers with existing tickets on American or US Airways -- and members of both frequent flier programs -- shouldn't fret. No changes will come immediately. Since announcing the deal in February, the two airlines have been working behind the scenes to try and make the merger as seamless as possible. Following Tuesday's agreement with the Justice Department, the two airlines said they expect the deal to close in December. But that doesn't mean everything will happen overnight. When the deal does close, here's what passengers can expect: Airfares During the past five years, the airline industry has seen the combinations of Delta (DAL) with Northwest, United (UAL) with Continental and Southwest Airlines (LUV) with AirTran. The price of a domestic round-trip flight has climbed more than 15 percent since 2009, when adjusted for inflation, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. The merger will give a combined American and US Airways Group Inc. the ability to increase fares. United, Delta and Southwest would be likely to follow. Although it could also pave the way for further expansion by discount airlines such as Spirit Airlines (SAVE) and Allegiant Travel (ALGT). Frequent Flier Miles Your miles will be safe. After the merger closes, the two airlines will likely combine the miles into one program and elite status from one airline will likely be honored on the other. That puts the occasional traveler closer to rewards. The merged carrier will continue American's participation in the OneWorld alliance, which was founded by American, British Airways, Cathay Pacific and Qant

Spirit Airlines (SAVE), Delta Air Lines (DAL),Alaska Air (ALK) and American Airlines (AAL) ranked behind Allegiant and all had ROIC WACC spreads that were 4 5 points. We are of the view that an airline with ROIC – WACC spread of at least 3 points (based on the industry historical WACC) has sufficient flexibility to pay down debt, re-invest in the business, and pursue pro-shareholder initiatives. If current trends hold, we believe United Continental (UAL) with a 2.3 point spread (produced in 2013) will be well-positioned to return capital to shareholders by 2015.

United Continental Holdings' (NYSE: UAL ) announcement last week that it's restructuring its MileagePlus program to give more free miles to passengers who spend the most -- and fewer to the folks who fill the cheap seats -- was no surprise to industry watchers. The decision, which takes effect in 2015, follows similar moves by budget carriers JetBlue (NASDAQ: JBLU ) ,Southwest (NYSE: LUV ) , and Virgin as well as Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL ) . American (NASDAQ: AAL ) is expected to follow suit once its merger with USAirways is settled.
